Squinting, I peered into the hazy undergrowth but could see nothing but the lightly swaying shadows and the dappled sunlight leaking through the canopy. A tiny mushroom caught my eye and beckoned me forward, there another I saw just a ways from my bare feet, calling me into the shady grove.
One by one they passed as I wandered deeper still into the woods. The soft bells grew louder in my ears, but beneath the sound I could hear laughter. The dense leaves over head shaded out the sun, and a small creek rushed underfoot gurgling and bubbling to meet the sea. There I saw it, just past the brook nestled in a small grove. A spinning wheel sat just out of reach creating a certain sparkle as the light caught its frame. Its deep walnut wood reflected the mottled sunlight breaking free of the boughs just overhead.
I approached slowly, not out of fear but curiosity. What creature had been spinning in this ancient grove, and why did it flee from me. Wound about the bobbin was a tiny tag, written in shimmering dew. I could not read the writing there, but I did decipher "For you"
